Maths in Room 11

Just over a week into the school year and already the students in Room 11 are learning new things! In the picture below you can see Room 11 and Room 14 students engaged in our Singles and Doubles Maths Warm-up. In this 10 minute activity, the students have to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers from a sheet in their book which changes every day. After doing this activity 3 days a week for the last few years in the Senior Team, we have noticed a boost in number knowledge confidence as the school year goes on.

Welcome Back!

Kia Ora ki te Whanau,

Welcome back to Parkland School for 2018! We have another busy year ahead of us, and I am really looking forward to working, both with the students in Room 11 and their families! I hope you have all had a relaxing summer break and are looking forward to the school year as much as I am.

Today we sent home some important notices (please see the pictures below) that require a bit of reading on your part. They cover our expectations and a few reminders too. It would also be beneficial for us to have the Student Information Sheet back to us as soon as possible.

Today was one of the hottest days that I have spent in the classroom, so a quick reminder about the importance of bringing a water bottle and Parkland School sunhat to school, these are essentials in Term One!

Thank you to the awesome and patient parents who came in to say Hi today, if you have yet to do so, please do, it is always a huge pleasure for me to see where these beautiful tamariki come from!

Nga mihi nui,
Stu Pratt

Year 6 Graduation

Here is a little sneak peek of the boys doing part of the Year Six dance. If you want to see the whole thing, you will need to come to the Year Six Graduation next Thursday beginning at 6:30 pm, remember all students need to be there by 6:10 pm in proper Parkland School uniform. It's going to be a great night for all involved and an especially special night for the Year Six's and their families, see you there!

On Wednesday, we had the talented actors and actresses from Playhouse come and perform a very funny, informative, and thoughtful play for us. Their message was all about not jumping to conclusions and making sure you have all the facts before making a decision that could be the wrong one, a very important message for our students.

Kia Ora ki te Whanau,

This term is going so quickly, we are already coming into Week 4, which means that there is only 5 and a half weeks left this year, and there is something exciting happening each and every week up till the end of the year!

This week is our Walkathon which has been appropriately named 'Walk-A-Long'. This is a great chance to raise some much needed funds for our school, which will go towards building a brand new long jump pit. Your child was sent home with an envelope and instructions for getting some donations for the event, and we invite all the families to come along on Friday afternoon to participate as well. The house who brings back the most envelopes, not necessarily the most money, will get maximum points to their end of year house points total, and with the competition so close at this point, that could make all the difference.

I hope to see you all at the 'Walk-A-Long'.
